A mattress was the source of an early morning fire Tuesday at a Sherbrook Street house that is under police investigation.
There was extensive smoke billowing from the second floor of the two-storey house when Winnipeg fire crews arrived at 700 Sherbrook St. at about 4:30 a.m.
A fire department spokesman said the fire was extinguished quickly as the firefighters were able to contain the fire to the mattress.
Police were on the scene with evidence markers visible in the yard at the rear of the home.
There were no injuries and no damage estimate available.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
