The province’s police watchdog is investigating after a man suffered a broken arm while being arrested last week by Winnipeg police.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba says a 23-year-old man was taken to the Health Sciences Centre after officers used force to arrest him May 27.

The IIU said when police responded at 9:12 p.m. to a call a woman was being assaulted on the 700 block of Sargent Avenue, they found a male suspect near the scene. The injury, a broken elbow, occurred while the suspect was being arrested.

The IIU is asking the public for any information or video footage that can help the investigation. The IIU can be contacted at 1-844-667-6060.
