Call for rare rebuke: The Conservatives have filed a motion calling for the Public Health Agency of Canada to be found in contempt of Parliament for refusing to hand over unredacted documents about the firing of two scientists from Winnipeg’s National Microbiology Lab. On June 17, 1960: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that Chinese Communists opened up a bombardment of Nationalist-held offshore islands as U.S. president Dwight Eisenhower sailed towards Formosa on his far eastern tour. Soviet premier Nikita Kruschev was planning a major tour of uncommitted nations in Africa, including Ghana, Guinea, Ethiopia, Liberia and the United Arab Republic. In Winnipeg, as some 30 denturists hurried to get out of their illegal trade, at least one denturist aimed to increase business, placing an ad in the Free Press.
