Court case: Developers will make their arguments as part of a legal bid to quash the city’s controversial impact fee. The Manitoba Home Builders’ Association and the Urban Development Institute allege the City of Winnipeg doesn’t have the authority to charge the fee, which took effect on new homes in some neighbourhoods in 2017. Mubarak dead: Hosni Mubarak, who was president of Egypt for nearly 30 years before he was forced to resign during the Arab Spring protests in 2011, has died at 91. He took office after the assassination of Anwar Sadat in 1981. READ MORE

On Feb. 25, 1978: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that prime minister Pierre Trudeau told attendees at a pre-election Liberal party convention in Ottawa that the greatest threat to Canada’s survival was a “crisis of confidence” brought on by Conservative and NDP “doomsayers.” Manitoba’s flood forecasting committee predicted above-normal precipitation from this point until spring runoff could result in major flooding on the Red and Assiniboine rivers. Manitoba’s 1,300 milk producers told the government they wanted an increase in milk prices to recoup higher production costs. READ MORE
