Forward Matt Savoie scored a short-handed goal and added an assist to lead Canada to a 6-0 win over Denmark in preliminary round hockey action at the Youth Olympics Sunday in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Defenceman Denton Mateychuk of Dominion City drew an assist on Savoie’s goal.
Canada, which outshot Denmark 44-8, is 1-1 in the preliminary round action in the tournament for males born in 2004.
Antonin Verreault had a pair of goals for Canada, while Justin Cote, Adam Fantilli and Cedrick Guindon added singles.
Savoie, a member of the Western Hockey League’s Winnipeg Ice, is captain of the Canadian team, which must wait for Tuesday’s semifinals.
