A residential fire in North Kildonan on Wednesday, and another in the North End on Thursday, are believed to have been deliberately set.

The Wednesday fire was to a detached garage and spread to vehicles and a residence in the 500 block of Oakland Avenue. The fire originated when a discarded sofa behind the garage was set on fire. Damage is estimated at $400,000.

The Thursday fire was in the 1400 block of Pacific Avenue West. It was started in the garage and spread to two neighbouring homes and two vehicles. Two residents went to hospital in stable condition.

The total damage is about $500,000.

No arrests have been made in either fire. The Arson Unit is investigation.
