Manitoba’s consumer protection office has fined a Winnipeg auto dealer for false advertising.

On Nov. 13, the office levied a $5,000 penalty against Auto Gallery of Winnipeg “for advertising the price of motor vehicles based on the inclusion of a special deduction or circumstance,” the province announced.

Under provincial legislation, advertisements must list the total cash price, including additional charges, except for sales tax and GST.

The fine for contravening this is $5,000 for the first offense, $10,000 for a second and $20,000 for a third or subsequent violation.
