Wyatt returns: Russ Wyatt made his second appearance at a council committee meeting Thursday since he was charged with sexual assault. The Transcona councillor, who was recently treated for substance abuse, wouldn’t say whether he will seek reelection. “Whatever I decide to do, whether I’m running or not, will be based on my recovery,” he said. Coalition collects cash: A coalition advocating reopening Portage and Main to pedestrians is seeking to raise at least $100,000 in a bid to influence this fall’s referendum. On Aug. 17, 1949: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that the Winnipeg Electric company might seek a straight 10-cent streetcar fare, in part as a reaction to recent wage increases sought by its employees. Hot weather preceded a game between the Blue Bombers and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats set to take place in Winnipeg’s Civic Stadium. In Hamburg, Germany, a German rocket expert said Soviet Russia was aiming rocket-propelled bombs at Western Europe.
