Three Winnipeg men who were stabbed after a wedding social in the Exchange District last month are suing a nightclub and the bouncer who’s accused of wielding the knife.
Cory Combot, 26, Demetric Rhoden, 26, and Darren Rhoden, 33, are asking Manitoba’s Court of Queen’s Bench to award them financial damages and pay for professional therapy and rehabilitation costs after they were allegedly stabbed outside Citizen Nightclub and Mazaj Lounge on Princess Street early July 7. Both businesses are owned by the same numbered company, and the stabbing victims argue the company should be held accountable for the stabbing.
A security guard for the business, Cezleik Nigel Wright, 37, has been charged with possession of a weapon and three counts of aggravated assault in connection with the stabbing. He’s named in the statement of claim, which was filed Aug. 9 on behalf of the three complainants.
They claim they were stabbed after being asked to leave the lounge after 3 a.m. that Saturday. Both 26-year-old men needed surgery and were hospitalized. Darren Rhoden was treated and released the same day. They’ve been unable to work since the stabbing and they want the court to make the company and Wright pay.
None of the allegations has been proven in court, no statements of defence have been filed and Wright has yet to enter a plea to his criminal charges.
