Winnipeg police announced a Thursday arrest in River Heights today in an attempt to show their proactive policing in a neighbourhood rattled by property crimes of late.

Around 3:35 a.m. Thursday, patrols in the area of Carpathia Road and Corydon Avenue stopped a man on a bicycle they deemed suspicious. Const. Jason Michalyshen, spokesman for the Winnipeg Police Service, said the man was stopped because he was out riding his bike alone, late at night, but added that police stop to speak to many people on the street.

The man stopped was identified as a 20-year-old who was breaching curfew conditions.

Dalton Laporte was arrested and charged with two orders of failing to comply. He is being held in custody.
