The Manitoba Museum has been honoured for producing the best new exhibit in Canada this year at the Canadian Museum Excellence Award ceremony this week in Banff, Alta.
Lake Winnipeg: Shared Solutions won the award for outstanding achievement in exhibitions (for museums with annual operating budgets over $1 million). Scott Young, the show’s curator and the museum’s manager of science communications and visitor services, says its is important for museums to tackle complicated environmental issues.
“This is one of the most advanced science-based video games ever created,” says Young. “We really hope this will help explain the issue and illustrate why it’s important to take action now to save Lake Winnipeg.”
Also at the event, museum CEO Claudette Leclerc was named a CMA Fellow, the highest form of recognition bestowed by the CMA. Her tireless dedication to the work of museums in this country was cited for her selection.
“I am honoured to be receiving such a distinction by my peers in the Canadian museum world,” says Leclerc. “Leading an organization like the Manitoba Museum is a privilege and I am truly honoured that CMA has recognized me as a fellow.”
