It was show and tell today at Winnipeg’s Richardson International Airport as officials showed off a newly refurbished runway and six pieces of runway equipment to the media.
The airport’s main north-south runway was completely refurbished over the last three months at a cost of $8.2 million.
It is scheduled to reopen to airplane traffic this afternoon, giving the airport two fully functioning runways for the first time since late April.

That will be a big relief for residents in some south-Winnipeg neighbourhoods like River Heights and East Fort Garry who have had 100 per cent of the plane traffic flying in and out of the airport passing over their homes while the runway was closed.
That compares to the usual 12 to 15 per cent.
“The first thing I would say (to them) is thank you for your patience,” Winnipeg Airports Authority president and CEO Barry Rempel said.
The pieces of equipment on display on the runway includes a giant snowblower, a specialized fire truck, and a sanding truck.
