A police search of a garage-based marijuana grow operation has led to charges for an Alonsa man.

Around 10 p.m. May 20, Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP searched a commercial garage in the community about 200 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg. They discovered hazardous conditions inside the building, so police stood guard at the scene until they could safely disconnect power to the garage.

The next day, RCMP officers from the detachment and the RCMP federal and serious organized crime unit seized 65 marijuana plants and drug paraphernalia.

Jeffrey Turko, 45, was charged with the production of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. He was released from custody and is to appear in Dauphin Provincial Court Sept. 15.
