More alleged victims have come forward in a historical sex-abuse case involving a local dentist.

Ronald Walter Peterson was charged in November 2014 for allegedly abusing five boys, all under the age of 16, between January 1998 and May 2014. After Peterson was charged with five counts each of sexual assault and sexual interference, four more people told police they, too, had been victims, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Friday.

Investigators believe the four additional victims ranged from 11 to 18 years old when the alleged abuse happened between Jan. 1, 1986 and Dec. 31, 1993.

Peterson now faces four additional counts of sexual assault and one charge of overcoming resistance to commit an offence. He was arrested April 23 and released on a promise to appear in court.

Peterson no longer has an active dentistry license, the Manitoba Dental Association confirmed Friday.

Since June 2014, restrictions on Peterson’s license prevented him from treating minors without supervision from a Manitoba Dental Association-approved staff member or the child’s parent, relative or guardian.
