William Prince released two new songs Tuesday and announced they’ll be part of a new album coming out April 14.
The album, Prince’s fourth, is titled Stand in the Joy, and the two tunes, When You Miss Someone and Tanqueray, are about what it feels to love and be loved.
Prince’s fiancée, Alyshia Grace, who sings backing vocals on the album and in his band, is the album’s inspiration, says a release from Prince’s label, Six Shooter Records. The couple appears on the album’s cover in front of a stand of giant trees.
The Peguis First Nation singer-songwriter’s smooth baritone is once again at the heart of the two new folk-pop songs.
“This record acknowledges pain but does not give it power,” Prince says in the release. “What I hope comes through are feelings of love, peace, and strength. The strength to stand in the goodness of what you have, rather than sit in what you have lost.”
Prince, who adds that he wants to “be like Johnny Cash, an artist for the people,” will follow Cash’s footsteps into country music’s brightest spotlight. He makes his Grand Ole Opry debut Feb. 18.
The radio show, which has been on the airwaves for 97 years and emanates from the Opry Stage in Nashville, Tenn., will also include Bill Anderson, the Del McCoury Band, Lorrie Morgan and Dean Dillon.
