Welcome back, winter. How was your vacation?

Regular January temperatures are back in business for Winnipeg and the surrounding area this morning, as the mild winter weather we experienced over the last couple weeks is now a distant memory.

Environment Canada is calling for periods of light snow this morning, with winds northwest 30 km/h. The temperature will actually fall to -17 C this morning, before rising slightly in the afternoon.

Look for clear skies and a low of -23 C (wind chill -31) tonight.

Friday should see some periods of light snow ending late in the afternoon and a high around the -9 C mark.

The normal high for this time of year is -11 C.

The good news is that the weekend figures to be quite sunny. The bad news is the temperatures will be well below normal, with highs only expected to reach -22 C both days.
