Education Minister Peter Bjornson has targeted culturally-relevant programming for indigenous students, improved math and literacy skills, career development, and postsecondary preparation in $25 million new money for public schools.
The money is slightly less than a two per cent increase in the province’s share of operating the $2.16-billion kindergarten-to-Grade 12 public school system.
Bjornson said he wants school divisions to shift money from surplus into the classroom or to hold down taxes, and will tighten caps on how much school boards can spend on senior administration.
School boards must set their budgets by March 15.
