After years of renovations, Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries (MBLL) has decided to shut down the Aquarium in the Club Regent Casino. MBLL has no idea what shutting down the aquarium would actually mean, all they see are dollar signs.

Shutting down the aquarium means rehoming dozens of fish, some of which have been at the aquarium for over a decade, and shipping them across Canada. 

It means ending an educational program that is one of a kind in Winnipeg, bringing awareness of marine conservation to a province of people that don’t often get to experience anything like it in their lifetime. 

It means halting a very successful and unique conservation and breeding program of the rare short tail nurse sharks that are vulnerable in the wild. The scientific research that is being collected on this species is incredibly valuable to the long term well-being of this very special fish.

The time and money that has been put into making the new aquarium will all have been for nothing. 

The aquarium is certified by Canada’s Accredited Zoos and Aquariums (CAZA) to ensure that they are getting nothing but the very best care. As well as ensuring that the aquarium is used as a learning facility.

The walk through aquarium has been an attraction in Winnipeg for over 20 years, if you don’t want to see it go then PLEASE sign this petition and show those who made this decision that this is about more than money, it’s about the lives of these animals and the education and joy that they bring to so many.
