Hey there, time traveller!

A Winnipeg middle school went into hold-and-secure mode Monday, locking exterior doors and checking students’ backpacks and lockers while police investigated a threatening message on social media.
In a letter issued Monday, Arthur Day Middle School principal Wendy Walder said police advised that it was safe to unlock exterior doors and dismiss students at the usual time, and parents and guardians were contacted to arrange for pickup of their children.
“It’s important to us to let you know that in an abundance of caution, the school performed visual backpack and locker checks of all students today,” the principal’s letter said. “No items of concern were found,” her letter said. Arthur Day Middle School is in the River East Transcona School Division.
The police advised the school that there is no need to continue with a hold-and-secure or cancel school Tuesday, and classes will continue as usual, the letter said. “We will be taking extra precautionary measures tomorrow following our safety protocol that is in place, including locking the exterior doors.”
The principal’s letter advised parents and guardians to keep an eye out for signs that a student was feeling upset by the incident, such as “not sleeping, overly expressing concerns, a change of behaviour or an increase in emotions.”
If so, Walder asked that they advise the school so further supports can be accessed. Divisional support staff will be at the school Tuesday, her letter said.
