On August 13, 1915: The Manitoba Free Press reported that the French commander, Gen. Joffre, planned a hard blow against the Central Powers in the ongoing Great War. French Canadians were said to be eagerly enlisting to fight. The Free Press’s E. Cora Hind reported from Alberta that from Canora to Wadena there were not many crops to be seen from the rail line, but broke down in which areas across the prairies the crops appeared to be in good condition.
