The Royal Winnipeg Ballet will take part in a five-night run of performances next March of interpretations of the songs of Elton John and Bernie Taupin.

Love Lies Bleeding, which promises to blend 14 songs from one of pop’s most famous musical partnerships with the grace and energy of Jean Grand-Maître’s ballet, has been announced for March 1-5 at the Centennial Concert Hall. The songs were interpreted by the Alberta Ballet.

At its season launch in February, the RWB said it would be involved in an “innovative new creation” but artistic director André Lewis wouldn’t let the cat out of the bag at the time.

Also announced Monday was the RWB’s mixed program of Celts, which fuses ballet, modern, classical and Irish folk dance with Irish music scored by groups including the Chieftains and Celtic Thunder. The company will host the program Jan. 27-28.

Season subscriptions for the 2016-17 RWB season are available by phone at 204-956-2792 or 1-800-667-4792 or in person at the RWB’s customer service office at 380 Graham Ave.
