Natural gas rates are going up by more than six per cent.
The Public Utilities Board announced Wednesday it had approved an application by Centra Gas to increase primary gas rates beginning Aug. 1.
The projected annual impact for a typical residential customer is an increase of 6.5 per cent or $49 per year.
Primary Gas rates will be reviewed again on Nov. 1, the PUB said in a release.
Primary gas rates for customers who have signed fixed-term fixed-price contracts, with either Centra or a private broker, are not affected by Wednesday’s ruling.
The PUB is an impartial tribunal and regulator that acts at arm’s length from government.
