A 22-year-old man is facing a charge of voyeurism for allegedly peeping into women’s bathroom stalls at the University of Winnipeg last week.
The staff member who reported the incident said she was in a stall when she heard someone enter the washroom. She saw a man crawling on the floor and looking up under stall doors before standing and peering through a gap in the door of her stall. The man fled after the employee yelled.
“It must’ve been a really traumatic situation,” Winnipeg Police Service spokesman Const. Rob Carver said Wednesday.
The incident happened about 8 a.m. on June 13.
Police did not release the man’s name, but said it’s not the same individual who tried to record a video of NDP MLA Nahanni Fontaine in a washroom at The Forks that same day.
“We believe (the CCTV images) are not similar,” Carver said, adding he had no updates on the investigation into Fontaine’s case.
The 22-year-old arrested was released on a promise to appear and will be charged with voyeurism.
