WAYNE GLOWACKI / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS Family and community members along with Drag The Red and Bear Clan members gathered underneath the Harry Lazarenko Bridge Friday afternoon after a body was recovered and pulled out of the Red River near St. John's Park.

A body was recovered and pulled out of the Red River near St. John’s Park on Friday morning by the Winnipeg police’s dive unit and river patrol squad.

The police haven’t identified the body yet, and a police spokeswoman said they aren’t ready to confirm whether it was male or female.

Since Tuesday, divers and the missing persons unit had been conducting a search of the river after reports of a 16-year-old boy disappearing into the water after swimming halfway across.

The police spokeswoman could not confirm the recovered body was that of the boy, despite other reports that the identity had already been confirmed by authorities.
