Manitoba posted the biggest provincial increase in manufacturing sales in the country in June, new Statistics Canada data shows.
Manitoba manufacturers shipped $1.58 billion worth of goods during the month, a six-per-cent increase from the $1.49 billion worth of sales recorded in May, the agency said Thursday.
Manitoba was one of only two provinces to record a month-over-month increase in sales. British Columbia was the other, with a gain of 0.9 per cent. The other eight provinces posted declines ranging from one per cent to 13.5 per cent.
Manitoba’s June sales total was also an 11.9 per cent increase from a year earlier, when $1.41 billion worth of goods were sold. Its year-over-year gain was the fourth largest among the provinces.
Nationally, Canada saw its manufacturing sales decline by 1.8 per cent to $53.9 billion in June from $54.9 billion in May; however, June’s total was still a 6.2 per cent improvement from a year earlier, when $50.8 billion worth of goods were sold.
