The Winnipeg Police Service’s dive unit is searching the Red River after a 16-year-old boy reportedly jumped in the water just north of the Redwood Bridge Tuesday night and disappeared.
A police spokeswoman said the incident was reported at about 9:10 p.m., when friends called and told officers the boy leapt in and swam halfway across before they could no longer see him.
Officers conducted an extensive search with the assistance of the police’s water rescue unit and river patrol, however those efforts proved unsuccessful. General patrol officers then searched the opposite river bank to determine whether the boy made it across, but found no evidence to suggest that happened.
The dive unit was then notified, and is now investigating alongside the missing persons unit.
