Firefighters spent hours battling a blaze in a duplex on McGregor Street this morning.

Fire crews were called to the scene at 677 McGregor St. shortly before 6 a.m., where they found one man outside the home and treated him for smoke inhalation. The man was the lone occupant of the home, and no one else was injured.

A duty officer with the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said it’s not yet known how the fire started. By the time crews arrived at the scene, the home was already engulfed in smoke.

Firefighters were ordered out of the house because of safety concerns, he said, adding it sustained major damage on all levels. No damage estimate was available.
