A Manitoba man is facing an impaired driving charge after he allegedly crossed into the U.S. without stopping and against oncoming traffic.

The 58-year-old from Benyks Point, driving a blue Chevrolet pickup truck, was pulled over Friday afternoon less than a kilometre south of the border at International Falls, Minn.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said the truck was travelling southbound from Canada in the northbound lane, against oncoming traffic.

Border officers followed the truck, arrested the driver for driving under the influence and gave him a ticket for failing to stop at the border, an act referred to as “port running.”

Port running carries a fine between US$5,000 and US$10,000, and people who do it run the risk of possible criminal charges and having their vehicle seized.

The driver’s name was not released.
