Police have arrested two 18-year-old men in connection with a bicycle-jacking on Wellington Crescent.

Members of the west district station community support unit were “conducting a proactive project focused on property crime” in the area of Lindsay Street and Wellington Crescent Thursday at 12:30 a.m. when they came upon a robbery, police said in a release.

Police met with a 14-year-old boy who had been pushed to the ground, punched and robbed of his bicycle by three males who had fled the area.

A short time later, a general patrol unit observed three suspects in the area of Portage Avenue and Winston Road. They ran from police and were tracked by members of the K9 unit. One suspect was located in the 100 block of Winston Road, while another was located in the 100 block of Cavell Drive.

The stolen bicycle was recovered and will be returned to the 14-year-old victim, police said. One of the suspects, an 18-year-old male, was arrested for robbery and failure to comply with a condition of recognizance and held in custody. Another 18-year-old was arrested for robbery and possession of a weapon and released on a promise to appear.

The major crimes unit continues to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
