A canoeist who disappeared while fishing on Lake Winnipeg has been found dead.
Selkirk RCMP said in a news release the body of the 53-year-old man was recovered Friday, and foul play is not suspected.
The man was reported missing Oct. 6, at about 5:25 a.m., after he didn’t return from a fishing trip at Sunset Beach the previous night.
RCMP later found the man’s vehicle and trailer at the beach, and began a search of the shoreline and the lake with the help of the Canadian Forces Joint Rescue Coordination Centre and the East Beaches Fire and Rescue.
Sunset Beach is located a short distance south of Grand Beach, on the east side of Lake Winnipeg, roughly 100 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.
