Manitoba business owners won in two categories, in this year’s EY Entrepreneur of the Year awards for the Prairies region.

The four founding partners of the Winnipeg e-commerce star Bold Commerce — Eric Boisjoli, Yvan Boisjoli, Stefan Maynard and Jason Myers — won the award for emerging entrepreneurs. Lloyd Dyck, owner of Brett-Young Seeds, won in the business-to-business products and services category.

They received the news at a gala event in Calgary on Thursday night.

“It was like the Academy Awards for business,” Bold’s Myers said.

Bold Commerce has become one of the fastest-growing tech companies in the province, with about 160 employees and growing. In addition to being the largest app developer and partner for Ottawa-based Shopify e-commerce platform, the company has a number of independent technologies in development.

Calvin Sonntag, CEO Brett-Young Seeds, said the award is testimony to the kind of personal commitment Dyck has made to the company over the years.

With 188 employees in five facilities from Ontario to Alberta, the special seeds company has had record growth six year in a row.
