Hey there, time traveller!

A West Kildonan man was stabbed several times early Wednesday morning after going to check out what he thought might have been an attempted break-in to his garage.
At about 2:30 a.m., the victim — a man in his 40s — was confronted outside his home on the 100 block of Belmont Avenue by two men who stabbed him repeatedly in the upper body. The man was taken to hospital in unstable condition, but is believed to now be stable.
Both attackers fled and, as of Wednesday morning, police don’t have detailed descriptions of them.
Const. Rob Carver called the situation a “cautionary tale.”
“Most people I know would’ve done the same thing,” Carver said, referring to the man checking his garage in the middle of the night. “This has turned out to be a tragic incident. Hopefully he’ll recover without any long-term effects.”
But the situation could have easily proven fatal, he said.
“It could have been a homicide.”
Carver said people should call police if they find themselves in a similar situation.
“That’s our recommendation, and I think it’s a recommendation that often flies in the face of what a lot of people would initially think. They know that if it’s just a property crime, it’s somewhat lower on our list of priorities.”
Carver said that while it’s a natural inclination to protect property, the situation can quickly escalate to tragedy.
“You can replace the stuff in your garage, but we can’t replace a human life,” he said.
