A fire confined to inside a commercial-sized dryer at the Norwood Hotel has sent a firefighter to hospital.

Winnipeg fire district chief Bruce Melnyk said on Sunday that the firefighter is in stable condition.

Melnyk wouldn’t say what the injury was or how it was caused.

Melnyk said firefighters rushed to the five-storey hotel on Marion Street at about 11 a.m.

He said everyone in the building left when the alarm went off, but by noon everybody was let back in.

Melnyk said about $10,000 in damage was caused, including smoke damage and destroyed items in the dryer itself.
