Winnipeg police are searching for a man they believe was involved in a pair of bank robberies in July.

The incidents occurred at two banks in the area of Dublin Avenue and St. Mary’s Road. The investigation revealed that both involved a similar set of circumstances.

The suspect approaches a teller with a large amount of Canadian currency in the form of $20 and $50 bills, requesting the sum be exchanged for $100 denominations. The teller complies and counts out the $100 bills.

The suspect then takes the money and recounts it. Once done, he requests the money be exchanged into U.S. currency, at which time he deftly slips an undisclosed amount of the money into his pocket before handing it back to the teller.

As the teller places the money into the till, the suspect changes his mind and asks for the original amount of Canadian currency back. The teller counts out the original request, unaware she is out a significant sum.

Only later in the day does the teller realize there is missing money.

The suspect is described as Asian in appearance, 5’3″ and between 20 to 30 years old. He has a stocky build and a thinly-trimmed beard along jaw line. He was wearing a black baseball cap, round plastic framed glasses and a light blue button-down short sleeved dress shirt.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact investigators at (204) 986-2877 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
