Let the chocolate flow! It’s Easter weekend in the city. While there will be Christian celebrations for some, chocolate treats will be part of the weekend for many.

The Free Press is not publishing a print edition or an e-edition on Good Friday, but readers can visit winnipegfreepress.com for the latest news and information. There will be an e-edition online on Easter Monday, but no print edition will be published.

Many businesses and government services change their hours over the Easter holiday; some are closed on Sunday in lieu of Easter Monday, so be sure to check before you make plans.

Here’s a selection:

 

SHOPPING

CF Polo Park, Garden City Shopping Centre, Kildonan Place, Portage Place, Grant Park Shopping Centre, Outlet Collection Winnipeg and St. Vital Centre are closed Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

The Forks Market and The Common are open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily Friday through Monday. The Johnston Terminal is open daily 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday at 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Most grocery stores, including Safeway, Sobeys, Superstore and Walmart, are closed Friday and Sunday. They are open regular hours on Saturday and Monday.

Manitoba Liquor Mart stores in Winnipeg are closed Friday and Sunday. For details on exceptions and rural Liquor Mart hours, visit www.LiquorMarts.ca/hours.

Beer vendors and private wine stores set their own hours for the holiday, so Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries suggests the best way to find out if the one near you will be open is to call.

 

ENTERTAINMENT

The Assiniboine Park Zoo is open regular hours on Friday, Monday and through the weekend.

FortWhyte Alive is open Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Manitoba Museum is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and is closed Easter Monday.

The Children’s Museum is open regular hours all weekend.

The Winnipeg Art Gallery is closed Friday and Monday.

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It is closed on Monday.

Movie theatres are open.

 

RECYCLING AND TRASH

Recycling and garbage is being collected as normally scheduled on the Good Friday and Easter Monday for those with Friday and Monday as their collection day.

The Brady Road 4R Winnipeg Depot is open to residential customers on Good Friday and Easter Monday at 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the Brady Road Landfill is open to commercial customers at 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The city’s other two 4R Winnipeg Depots, on Panet Road and Pacific Avenue, are closed Friday and Monday.

 

LEISURE ACTIVITIES

All leisure centres are closed Friday and Monday. Regular hours of operation are in effect for Saturday and Sunday.

City of Winnipeg swimming pools are closed on Friday, with the exception of the Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex and Seven Oaks Pool, which are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the Margaret Grant Pool, which is open 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Regular hours of operation are in effect for all pools on Saturday. Pools are open on Sunday until 4 p.m.

Pools are closed on Monday, except the Pan Am Pool, which is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex, which is open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Golf courses at Harbour View and Kildonan Park are open for the season on Friday. (Windsor Park and Crescent Drive will open on April 26.)

 

WINNIPEG TRANSIT

Winnipeg Transit is operating Friday on a Sunday schedule. On Monday, Winnipeg Transit is operating on a regular weekday schedule.

LIBRARIES

All Winnipeg Public Library branches are closed Friday and Sunday. All branches are open regular hours on Saturday. On Monday, the Millennium, Charleswood, Henderson, Louis Riel, Pembina Trail, and West Kildonan libraries are open 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. The Harvey Smith Library is open 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. All other libraries are closed.

CEMETERIES

Brookside, St. Vital and Transcona Cemeteries are open at 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. throughout the weekend, including Friday and Monday. Cemetery offices will be closed on Friday and Monday.

GOVERNMENT SERVICES

Civic, provincial and federal offices are closed Friday and Monday.

The Winnipeg Parking Authority is closed on Friday and Monday.

The Animal Services Agency is closed on Friday and Monday.

Canada Post is not delivering mail on Friday or Monday, and its offices are closed. However, post offices operated by the private sector may be open according to the hours of service of the host business.

SCHOOL ZONES

School zone speed limits are in effect Friday and Monday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
