DONATIONS to the Manitoba NDP fell to $627,974 last year from $778,482 in 2017, according to the party’s annual financial statement, filed with Elections Manitoba.
The NDP received $464,248 from supporters contributing $250 or more and $163,726 from those who gave less than $250.
In 2016, an election year, the party received close to $1.2 million in contributions, about half the amount taken in that year by the rival Progressive Conservatives.
The PCs’ annual financial report was also due to be filed Monday with Elections Manitoba. An official with the independent agency said it would be posted on its website this morning.
The Green party recorded financial contributions totalling $25,175 in 2018.
The Manitoba Liberals have asked for a filing extension until May 1.
The NDP’s fundraising effort last year was its least successful in more than a decade. Elections Manitoba’s website carries political party annual financial statements dating to 2005.
At the close of 2018, the NDP had $194,378 in cash on hand.
According to provincial law, political parties must name all donors who contribute $250 or more. Donations from businesses and unions are prohibited in Manitoba. The maximum donation an individual can make to a political party in one year is $5,000. The NDP had three such contributors last year.
Of note, NDP Leader Wab Kinew gave $1,812 to his party last year, while former premier Greg Selinger contributed $2,566.
