A pedestrian hit when he stepped into traffic was reported to be headed into surgery Wednesday.

The collision occurred about 8 p.m. Tuesday evening in St. Vital, when the man attempted to cross Bishop Grandin Boulevard at St. Anne’s Road against the traffic lights. He was headed south when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle.

A bus shelter on the corner was shattered by the impact. Police believe the car crashed into the glass structure after hitting the pedestrian.

The pedestrian, who police described only as an adult male, 18, was taken to hospital in stable condition. Media reports early Wednesday added details about the anticipated surgery.

Police closed the intersection for about an hour last night to conduct an investigation, which included video evidence related to the incident.

Police said no charges had been laid as of Wednesday.
