On March 20, 1936: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that flooding on four U.S. rivers — the Ohio, the Potomac, the Susquehanna and the Connecticut — had ravaged the eastern United States and caused 133 deaths. A colony of 8,000 Mennonite farmers that had left western Canada to settle in Mexico 10 years earlier sought to return to Canada and hoped to settle in Quebec.
