Memorial march: A march in honour of Tina Fontaine, the 15-year-old whose 2014 slaying made national headlines, will start at the law courts at 10:30 a.m. Raymond Cormier was acquitted by a jury of second-degree murder in her slaying yesterday. Katie May reports. READ MORE

Bus crash: Police are investigating a crash involving a Winnipeg Transit bus and a car in St. Boniface early today. Three people were injured in the collision on westbound Goulet Street. READ MORE

Sentencing scheduled: A judge is expected to decide today whether a young man who killed four people and wounded seven in a mass shooting in La Loche, Sask., should be sentenced as an adult. He pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder and seven counts of attempted murder. READ MORE

Record medal haul: Kaetlyn Osmond won bronze in women’s figure skating late last night, Canada’s 27th medal of the Olympics in Pyeongchang. That’s one more than Canada’s previous record at a Winter Games, set in Vancouver in 2010. Canada hopes to guarantee at least a silver medal with a semifinal win over Germany in men’s hockey being played right now. In curling, the Kevin Koe rink lost the bronze-medal game to Switzerland earlier today. Canada’s women’s team was also left off the podium. READ MORE

On Feb. 23, 1974: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that Winnipeg faced a strike by members of the city’s eight police departments, who had been working without a contract since Dec. 31; no date had been set. The editor of the Atlanta Constitution newspaper, held by kidnappers, was released when the newspaper paid the $700,000 ransom; his captors had told him they were going to “straighten out the damn liberal press and straighten out the government.” A Georgia couple was charged in the kidnapping.
