Winnipegger Mike Duerksen took a more social approach to proposing to his longtime girlfriend Janelle Freed Friday, inviting Twitter followers along for the 12-hour lead-up to the big question, as he took Freed on dates around the city.

The non-tweeting Freed remained, thankfully, oblivious to the hundreds of responses and words of encouragement Duerksen’s updates sparked as the day progressed and word spread.
