A Manitoba basketball standout has found a new home.

The London Lightning of the National Basketball League of Canada announced Thursday that they have signed Winnipegger, Chad Posthumus, to their roster for the upcoming 2015-16 season.

Posthumus, a 6-foot-11 centre, has experience playing professional basketball in Japan, Argentina, and with the Chicago Bulls as part of their NBA Summer League program. He also spent time with the Mississauga Power last season, averaging 24 points and 15 rebounds in three games.

“I am excited to bring him in,” said Lightning head coach Kyle Julius, in a statement released by the team. “Chad has great character and the potential to be a great player in our league and a true leader for our team. The fans will appreciate Chad’s energy and toughness. I’ve had a long relationship with Chad; I trust and respect him as a person and as a basketball player.”

Prior to playing professionally, the 24-year-old Posthumus attended River East Collegiate before moving on to play for Morehead State University. During the 2013-14 season at Morehead, Posthumus finished fourth in NCAA rebounding despite averaging just 23 minutes per game.

“I am very excited to become a part of the London Lightning family and I am looking forward to an excellent season here. The Lightning organization is the best in the NBL and the country,” said Posthumus.

“I am really looking forward to working with Kyle, a coach I admire, and to getting out into the London community.”
