The board of directors of Manitoba Hydro has appointed an interim president and CEO while it continues its search for a new leader to replace the departing Scott Thomson.

Darren Rainkie, currently the Crown corporation’s chief financial officer, will assume the temporary role on Friday.

“The search for a new president and CEO is proceeding well and we hope to have it completed within the next two months,” said board chairman Bill Fraser in a news release.

Rainkie, a chartered accountant, has more than two decades of work experience at Manitoba Hydro and Centra Gas.

He was named corporate controller of Manitoba Hydro in 2008, and appointed to the role of vice-president of finance and regulatory affairs, and chief financial officer in 2013.

Thomson announced in late June that he was leaving the corporation. He held the top post for more than three and a half years.
