Pembina Trails School Division trustees are looking at a draft budget increase of 4.8 per cent in school taxes.
That would amount to about $100 on a typical house assessed at a value of $398,444, the division said in a news release today.
The division is forecasting an enormous increase of 344 students next fall, following growth this year of 252 students — second-highest in Manitoba.
Those new students are driving up spending, along with the costs of opening the new South Pointe School, and the need to bus many of the new students.
The trustees will hold a budget feedback session on Feb. 25.
School boards must set their mill rates by March 15.
