Charges are pending after a police Taser, stolen from an officer who dropped it during a large street fight, was recovered.

Police said the Taser was recovered early Saturday afternoon. An arrest has been made, but police didn’t disclose the person’s gender or age.

The Winnipeg Police Service warned the public about the dangers posed by the stolen Taser on Sept. 3, after an angry confrontation in the Exchange District early that morning.

An officer dropped the weapon after he and his partner were assaulted as they tried to tend to an injured man and break up a street fight in the Exchange District.

The injured man was taken to hospital in critical condition.

The brawl happened in the area of Rorie Street and Bannatyne Avenue.

Police discharged the Taser to disperse the crowd as angry people confronted the officers.

As the struggle went on, one officer dropped the Taser, and both officers tried to return to the victim to continue first aid until paramedics could arrive.

The officers couldn’t find the missing Taser after emergency crews arrived. At the time, police said they believe the weapon was stolen by someone involved in the street fight.
