Wednesdays with Jen

Good morning, folks.

If you’ve been following along here, you know that Mike McIntyre drops by my office every Wednesday morning to record the lastest instalment of our Jetcetera podcast.

You’ll also know that Mike and I — OK, mostly me — have had a few issues ensuring the darn thing gets recorded.

I won’t go over the various faux pas — and yes, it’s spelled like that when plural — but I will now admit that while I have tried to blame the evil contraption that we record on for the problems, as usual, the culprit has been operator error.

To ensure everything went OK on Episode 68: The Larry Butler episode, our podcast producer Jen Zoratti ventured into the office yesterday and provided us with a tech-check.

Turns out there was a little button on the recording contraption that someone must have pushed, which changed the microphone status. I’m betting Mike did it. You know what they say rolls downhill, right?

With the little buttons now correctly pressed, I can report that Episode 68 went off without a hitch.

So, a special shout-out to Jen.

And also one to high school pal, Ken M., for providing us with the info on Larry Butler: the CFL’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman in 1981 as a member of the Bombers. Much better than the Jaromir Jagr episode.

With all sytems go, Mike and I have delivered another 42 minutes of golden blah blah blah.

As usual, we kicked things off with a chat about the Jets and what the players and brass had to say on Louis Vitton Day. We also spent a fair bit of time discussing this week’s news that the CFL will go ahead with its 2021 season; the Toronto Blue Jays’ brutal bullpen; Mike’s near hole-in-one at Oakwood (he says two feet, I say four); and my decision to pick up the sticks again for a visit to the driving range.

Apparently, Mike uses a two-foot putter. Hmmmm....

This week’s U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, which I was once blessed to play, reminds me of the many joys I experienced from the game.

We’ll see how the range goes. I’m hoping better than my ability to record a podcast.

By the way: along with helping us every Wednesday, Jen also has a terrific newsletter she sends out each Wednesday. Called NEXT — kudos to the person who came up with that name — it’s a weekly look towards a post-pandemic future. You can subscribe to it here.

Hope you’re having a great week so far, folks, and, as always, you can reach me by replying to this mailing or by sending me an email here.

My mistake

In Wednesday’s edition of this mailing I mentioned how nice it will be to see Bombers fans in the stands “that first Friday night in August.” In fact, it will be the first Thursday.
