Battle over Brexit: Voters in the United Kingdom will decide today who they want to resolve the impasse over Brexit. On Dec. 12, 1983: The Winnipeg Free Press reported the provincial NDP government was considering changing its plan to offer constitutional entrenchment of certain French-language services in Manitoba after facing a backlash from opposition parties and the public. New provincial Conservative leader, Gary Filmon, was invited to discuss the issue. An auditor’s report found irregularities in the financial records at St. George’s Anglican Church, leading to the resigination of the parish priest. The U.S.-based National Coalition on Television Violence called CTV’s prime-time programming a “ghetto of American violence,” in a report submitted to the United Nations.
