Alcohol out of reach: A privately run vendor just outside the city has begun blocking access to pricier liquors amid the massive surge in booze thefts in Winnipeg. Beginner’s luck: The Colorado Avalanche’s third-string goalie, Adam Werner, helped shut out the Jets after replacing the starter only 31 seconds into the game. It was Werner’s NHL debut after playing only nine AHL games. “Their guy made a bunch of good saves,” Jets coach Paul Maurice said. “We had a bunch of good chances that didn’t go for us.” Mike McIntyre reports. On Nov. 13, 1991: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that city bureaucrats were calling for fee increases on everything from ambulance service to sewer and water rates to raise $15 million in the coming year. The province, city and local business leaders struck a deal that would pay the private owners of the Winnipeg Jets $10 million to keep the team in Winnipeg until 1996-97. A city physician was censured by the Manitoba College of Physicians and Surgeons for attempting to kiss a patient against her wishes. READ MORE
