Simulated emergency: A live emergency exercise will be held at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport today, involving a simulated incident on the airfield with on-airport and off-airport emergency response vehicles and personnel participating. The Winnipeg Airports Authority won’t say when the event will happen, but it says the location and timing has been planned to avoid disruption to airfield operations.

Hunger in Winnipeg: In a first-of-its-kind initiative, a group of local high school students will be joined at Winnipeg Harvest at 10 a.m. today by Fairmont Winnipeg’s Executive Sous Chef Timothy Palmer and Winnipeg dietitian Madelaine Morrish to learn about hunger in the community and the importance of a nutritious diet. Together, they will also they unload 4,560 boxes of pasta that will be delivered to the food bank.

On May 25, 1985: The Winnipeg Free press reported that in Washington, D.C., Salvation Army officials expected indictments soon of mid-level officers allegedly involved in receiving illegal kickbacks. In Manitoba, three inmates were found guilty on two counts of first-degree murder in the stabbing deaths of two Stony Mountain prison guards. In Parliament, opposition MPs said Via Rail ticket prices would have to hump 20 to 30 per cent given recent government cuts, putting the future of the passenger rail service in doubt. Membership in the Freemasons was at an “ebb tide” in Manitoba.
