College construction: A ceremony will take place this morning related to construction of Red River College’s $95-million Innovation Centre. On July 18, 1947: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that in Greece, nationalist planes were inflicting heavy losses on guerrilla fighters fleeing northeast of Ioannina; the Greek government said the first guerrilla band “invaded” from Albania. Winnipeg firefighters battled stubborn smoke fumes at the Elmwood garbage dump in an attempt to prevent court action against the city. Alberta said freight rates were oppressive, and a professor from the University of Alberta said the removal of constructive mileage between Fort William and Winnipeg alone would be of no benefit to the province.
