One man is dead following a stabbing on Selkirk Avenue Friday night.

The incident happened just before 11 p.m. near Parr Street. Police were on scene first and performed first aid on the man until paramedics arrived. The man died shortly afterwards. It is the fifth homicide of the year.

Police released no details on the man’s age or what may have prompted the violence.

Witnesses on Selkirk Avenue say the street was closed last night for several hours near Parr. One witness said he saw a man get beaten by two others at around 11 p.m. and blood can be seen on the pavement near some townhomes.

Const. Jason Michalyshen said this morning police are still on scene. Cruisers could be seen stationed at a bungalow at 719 Flora Ave. near Parr Street, just south of Selkirk. Yellow police tape surrounded a backyard and a garage. Evidence of a an earlier backyard gathering around a fire pit can be seen.

Michalyshen said homicide investigators are awaiting an autopsy to confirm the cause of death and interviewing witnesses. He stopped short of saying police have a suspect or suspects in mind.

“We’re optimistic the investigation will move forward in a positive way,” said Michalyshen.
